Development of Tourism in Uttarakhand


Uttarakhand was devastated by the worst of the natural calamities, which wiped of some of the popular places of the state. Devastation caused by the recent floods in the region was so quick and unexpected that it gave no time to implement rescue operations. In response to the damage caused to these places local administration has planed a redevelopment of around half dozen tourist places which attract tourists like a magnet.

Government has planned to concentrate on the development of places in the city as well as in the vicinity of Dehradun like Tiger falls, Hanol temple, adventure sports center, Assan barrage, Lakhmandal Temple and Vriksha Samadhi. These tourist attractions and many other apart from them are bringing hoards of tourists to this Himalayan state in North India. Other major tourist attractions which will be renovated will be tourist home in Bhimtal and trekking trail from Naikuchiyatal which is one of the scenic lakes near Nainital. At Corbett’s northern end in Kotdwar a modern tourism site is proposed to be developed. Tehri Lake will receive an adventure sports center, whereas Jagjitpur beautification program will be undertaken soon. These modifications will be done from a huge fund received from the Asian Development Bank and the work is planned to be completed before 2017. Some of the other tourist destinations to be developed from tourism point of view are Ganga canal and Tehri Lake in Haridwar. Among these sites Bhimtal and Nainital are the major tourist attractions of the region. Bhimtal is having many popular attractions like beautiful Bhimtal Lake with a scenic island at its center. A few more lakes, mountains and valleys having a reference in the religious books are boosting tourism in the region.

Bhimtal has many types of accommodations ranging from Dharamshalas or dormitories to some of the modern ones like resorts located in most serene locations on the hill slopes enveloped in lush green forests. Resorts in Uttarakhand are spread at every important tourist location offering a luxurious stay in the lap of the nature that too at a reasonable cost.
